One way to see the opposing side's argument is to look at what political cartoons are being created. I am adding Common Core political cartoons to show another viewpoint of these standards.
People have had an immense problem with the testing that goes along with Common Core. The political cartoon at the top of the screen helps demonstrate this public upset. Their main arguments are that these tests will take away from class time and will not allow students to be able to fully learn critical thinking skills. However, these tests are designed so that teachers will be to judge how students are performing academically. They are not meant to take away from class time. Teachers can still be creative in the classroom with the Common Core Standards. These tests will help teachers compare test scores with schools all over the nation. The data they provide will help improve the school system even more.
Some opposing arguments are that the Common Core Standards will make students come out the same. They argue that there will no longer be diversity in the classroom. While the standards do call for higher learning, they do not take away from diversity in the classroom. They allow teachers to still be very creative in their lesson plans. The only difference is that now students will on track with other students in the nation and better prepared for college.
The last picture is arguing that teachers did not have enough say in making the common core standards. While I wish teachers had more say in making educational goals for our nation, I do believe they will be able to use these goals for their classroom. We have excellent teachers in our nation. With excellent goals and standards, our students will succeed.
